Licensing & connected mode

Ultraviolet is licensed, but designed to stay out of your way — it will never cut you off in the middle of an incident, and it works completely offline.

The License page

The License page (under System) shows your license status, who it’s issued to, and when it’s valid through. It lists your entitlements — node count, sites, ingest per day, and any included features — and shows your current usage: active and peak nodes and node-minutes for the period. This page stays reachable even if the rest of the portal is locked, so you can always see where you stand.

How enforcement works

The gate is time-based and forgiving:

• With no license, the core still ingests your data — only the UI is locked, so you never lose telemetry while you sort out licensing.
• As a license nears expiry it enters a grace period with a banner, well before anything stops.
• Your node, site, and ingest entitlements are metered and shown, not hard- enforced — going a little over your node count won’t cut you off mid-incident. You’ll see your usage on the License page; overages are a billing conversation, not an outage.

Connected mode (recommended)

The simplest way to run Ultraviolet is connected mode: the core checks in periodically and renews your license automatically, so you never have to rotate a license file by hand.

• It sends usage metadata only — license ID, customer, and node counts. Your observability data is never sent.
• Renewal extends a short rolling lease up to your subscription’s end date.
• If a check-in ever fails or is blocked, nothing degrades — the core keeps running on the license it already has.

Air-gapped mode (fully offline)

If your environment has no outbound internet — or you simply prefer it that way — Ultraviolet runs completely air-gapped. The core never phones home; your license is a signed file you install and refresh yourself. Everything else works exactly the same. This mode is fully supported, not a fallback — it’s just the option to choose when connecting out isn’t possible or wanted.
